Can You Learn EFT Online?

  • By Tania A Prince
can-you-learn-eft-online

Yes. EFT can be learned online, and live online training can provide an effective and highly interactive way to develop both your understanding of EFT and your practical skills.

However, there is an important distinction between learning EFT online and simply watching EFT online.

You can learn the basic tapping sequence relatively quickly from a video or demonstration. Developing the ability to use EFT skilfully is different.

Practitioner-level learning involves understanding what you are targeting, knowing how to work with what emerges, practising your skills, receiving feedback and developing the ability to make appropriate decisions as an EFT session unfolds.

For this reason, my EFT practitioner training is taught live online.

The recordings and additional online learning resources support and consolidate the live training. They do not replace it.

Can You Really Learn EFT Without Being in the Same Room as the Trainer?

Yes.

EFT lends itself particularly well to live online training because the trainer does not need to physically touch the student. Much of the work involves conversation, careful observation, focused attention and the person tapping on their own acupoints.

During live online EFT training, students can:

  • watch EFT being demonstrated in real time
  • ask questions as they arise
  • participate in discussions
  • practise what they are learning
  • work with other students in private breakout sessions
  • receive guidance and support during their practice
  • observe different ways in which EFT can be applied

This is very different from sitting alone and watching a collection of prerecorded videos.

The training is happening live, with real people responding to what is being taught.

How Does My Live Online EFT Training Work?

My EFT training combines live teaching, demonstrations, practical experience, supported practice and post-training learning resources.

The main training takes place live online.

During the training, I teach the EFT material, demonstrate how EFT is used and answer questions from students.

How live online EFT training works with live teaching, demonstrations, supported practice, guidance, training resources and an accreditation pathway

Students then have opportunities to practise what they are learning with each other in private practice sessions.

These student practice sessions are not recorded.

This is deliberate. Students need a private space in which they can practise, experiment and develop confidence without feeling that their personal work is being permanently recorded.

However, they are not simply sent into breakout rooms and left to manage on their own.

My training assistants move between the private practice sessions, checking how students are getting on and providing guidance when needed.

This means students have an opportunity to put what they have just learned into practice while still having access to support.

What Parts of the Live EFT Training Are Recorded?

The main teaching elements of the live training are recorded.

These include:

  • my teaching
  • EFT demonstrations
  • explanations of techniques and concepts
  • questions and discussions arising during the training

The students’ private practice sessions are not recorded.

This creates an important balance.

Students have privacy when they are practising with each other, while still having access afterwards to the core teaching, demonstrations and discussions from the training.

Who Can Access the EFT Training Recordings?

The recordings are only available to students who have attended the live training.

They are not offered as an alternative to attending the course.

After the training, attendees receive access to a private online training platform where the recordings are housed alongside additional learning materials.

This allows students to return to important parts of the training after the live course has finished.

That can be particularly valuable with EFT because your understanding often develops as you begin practising what you have learned.

Something that seemed straightforward during the training may take on considerably more meaning when you revisit a demonstration after beginning to use the technique yourself.

What Is Included in the Private Training Platform?

The private training platform is designed to help students consolidate and develop what they learned during the live training.

It includes the recordings of the core teaching and demonstrations from the course together with additional resources.

These include:

Additional EFT Demonstrations

Students can watch further examples of EFT being used, helping them see how the principles taught during the live training translate into actual EFT work.

Additional Learning Resources

Supporting materials allow students to revisit concepts and strengthen their understanding after the live training has finished.

Recordings From the Live Training

Students can return to demonstrations, teaching and questions from the training they attended.

Step-by-Step Accreditation Guidance

The platform also includes a step-by-step guide to gaining accreditation.

Students who want to continue towards professional accreditation therefore have a clear pathway to follow after completing the live training.

Students who do not intend to become professional practitioners can still use the platform to consolidate and deepen their EFT knowledge and skills.

The platform therefore isn’t intended to replace live EFT practitioner training.

It extends it.

Live Training → Supported Practice → Review → Consolidation → Accreditation Pathway

Why Watching Random EFT Videos Online Can Be Confusing

There is a huge amount of EFT content available online.

This can be useful when you are first discovering tapping, but it can also be confusing.

One of the difficulties is that people use and teach EFT in many different ways.

Watch several EFT videos and you may see very different approaches.

You may hear different setup statements, different wording, different questioning styles, different tapping sequences and very different ideas about what the person should actually be focusing on while they tap.

Some of what you see may be effective.

Some may be less effective.

But if you are new to EFT, how do you know the difference?

Without a clear framework, it is easy to come away with the impression that EFT is mainly about finding the right words, repeating a tapping script or simply tapping while talking about a problem.

Effective EFT involves more than that.

Watching EFT online compared with live EFT training, including structured learning, effective targeting, demonstrations and supported practice

Tapping Is Only Part of EFT

One of the things I emphasise strongly in my EFT training is effective targeting.

Where you direct a person’s attention while they tap matters.

Rather than simply teaching students a collection of tapping phrases, I want them to understand:

What are we actually working on?

For example, somebody might say:

“I’m anxious.”

But anxiety is a very broad description.

What are they anxious about?

Is there a particular situation they are anticipating?

Is there an image in their mind?

Are they imagining something going wrong?

What do they fear might happen?

Is there a particular memory connected with the anxiety?

What happens in their body when they think about it?

These distinctions can change where you take the EFT session.

Simply tapping on:

“Even though I have this anxiety…”

may be very different from identifying and targeting the particular experience that is driving the person’s emotional response.

Learning How to Target EFT Effectively

On my EFT practitioner training, I make sure students learn how to identify and target what is relevant rather than simply tapping around a problem.

That means developing the ability to listen carefully, ask useful questions and recognise where the emotional charge appears to be.

It also means learning to notice what happens after tapping.

Did something change?

Did another emotion appear?

Did a different memory come to mind?

Has the person’s perspective changed?

Has the physical sensation moved or altered?

Has another aspect of the problem emerged?

The practitioner needs to be able to notice these changes and decide where to go next.

This is where practical experience becomes so important.

During the private practice sessions on my training, students begin applying these skills themselves.

My assistants move between the practice rooms and provide guidance where needed. Students therefore have an opportunity to discover whether they are actually targeting the issue effectively while they are developing their skills.

Questions and learning arising from practice can then be explored further.

This is one of the major differences between watching EFT online and being trained in EFT online.

With random videos, you are seeing somebody else’s version of EFT without necessarily having a framework for evaluating what they are doing.

With structured practitioner training, you are developing that framework.

You are learning not simply:

“Where do I tap?”

but:

“What am I targeting with the tapping?”

That is a much more important practitioner skill.

Live Online EFT Training vs Prerecorded EFT Courses

The term online EFT training can describe very different learning experiences.

A prerecorded course can be useful if you want to discover EFT, learn the tapping points or explore a particular aspect of the method.

Recordings can also be extremely valuable after live training, which is why I provide them to students who attend my courses.

They allow you to revisit demonstrations and teaching when you have had more time to process and practise what you learned.

However, practitioner-level training involves something that recordings alone cannot provide: interaction.

During live training, you can ask:

“What would I do if that happened with a client?”

“Why did you ask that particular question?”

“Why did you stay with that memory?”

“What do I do if the intensity doesn’t change?”

“Something unexpected happened when we were practising. What should I do?”

These questions are part of learning.

Real EFT sessions don’t necessarily follow a predictable script.

People make unexpected connections. Emotions change. Memories emerge. Something that initially appeared important may lead to something quite different.

Developing the ability to respond flexibly to what happens is part of progressing from knowing an EFT procedure to developing skill in using EFT.

What Can You Learn on an Online EFT Practitioner Course?

A comprehensive EFT practitioner training should go considerably further than teaching the tapping points.

You may learn about:

  • the EFT tapping sequence
  • how to identify what you are actually working on
  • assessing emotional intensity
  • setup statements and reminder phrases
  • working with emotions and physical sensations
  • identifying specific events and memories
  • recognising different aspects of a problem
  • questioning and listening skills
  • effective targeting
  • recognising what changes during tapping
  • knowing how to respond when another issue emerges
  • approaching emotional material appropriately
  • structuring an EFT session
  • boundaries and professional considerations
  • developing practitioner skills rather than simply following scripts

Ultimately, practitioner training is about learning how to think and work with EFT.

Do You Have to Want to Become a Professional EFT Practitioner?

No.

This is an important distinction.

Some people undertake EFT training because they want to establish a professional EFT practice.

Others already work as therapists, coaches or within another helping profession and want to incorporate EFT into their existing work.

Some people simply want a much deeper understanding of EFT for their own development.

You can therefore want practitioner-level knowledge and skill without wanting to become a professional practitioner.

The depth of your learning does not have to be determined by whether you intend to charge clients.

Can You Become an EFT Practitioner Through Online Training?

Yes.

Practitioner-level EFT training can be undertaken live online.

However, completing the initial training and gaining professional accreditation are not necessarily the same thing.

Depending upon the professional pathway you follow, there may be additional requirements after the live training.

This is why students attending my training have access to a step-by-step accreditation guide within the private training platform.

Those who want to progress towards accreditation can see what they need to do next rather than finishing the training and wondering where to go from there.

Those who don’t want professional accreditation can still use the platform to consolidate and deepen their learning.

Is Online EFT Training Effective?

It can be extremely effective when it is designed specifically for live online learning.

The important question isn’t simply:

“Is the course online?”

A much better question is:

“What actually happens during the training?”

A good live online practitioner course should involve interaction.

Students should have opportunities to see EFT demonstrated, practise their skills, ask questions and receive guidance.

This is why I don’t think the quality of EFT training should be judged simply by whether students and trainers are physically in the same room.

A passive face-to-face course can potentially involve less meaningful practice than a carefully structured, interactive online training.

What Should You Look for in Online EFT Training?

If you are considering an online EFT course, find out exactly what the words “online training” mean.

Useful questions include:

  • Is the practitioner training actually live?
  • How much practical experience is included?
  • Will I see the trainer demonstrate EFT?
  • Can I ask questions during the training?
  • Will I practise with other students?
  • Is support available while I am practising?
  • Are student practice sessions private?
  • Will someone help me learn how to target EFT effectively?
  • Can I revisit the main teaching afterwards?
  • Are there additional resources to help consolidate my learning?
  • What support is available after the live course?
  • Is there a clear pathway if I want to progress towards accreditation?
  • What experience and credentials does the trainer have?

These questions tell you considerably more about the quality of an online course than the word “online” itself.

My Experience of Teaching EFT

I have worked with EFT since its early development and have been training people in EFT for more than two decades.

I was one of the original EFT Masters appointed by EFT founder Gary Craig and was the third therapist in the world to be awarded trainer status by AAMET, the organisation that later became EFT International.

I also served on the original AAMET training board, where I was involved in overseeing EFT training syllabuses and standards.

Today, as an EFT International Accredited Master Trainer of Trainers, I train both EFT practitioners and EFT trainers.

Over many years of teaching, one thing has remained important to me:

EFT is a practical skill.

Students need more than information.

They need to see it, experience it, practise it, ask questions and receive guidance as they develop their understanding.

My live online training is structured around that principle.

What Are the Advantages of Learning EFT Online?

For many students, live online training makes high-quality EFT education considerably more accessible.

There is no need to travel or pay for accommodation.

You can learn from a particular trainer regardless of where you live.

You also gain experience communicating and practising through a screen, which can be particularly useful if you eventually intend to work professionally with clients online.

And after my live training, you don’t have to rely entirely on your memory or handwritten notes.

You can return to the private training platform and revisit the teaching and demonstrations as your understanding develops.

You can watch additional demonstrations and use the supporting learning materials to consolidate your knowledge.

For those who want to take their training further, the step-by-step accreditation information provides a clear route forward.

This creates a learning process that continues beyond the live training days.

So, Can You Learn EFT Online?

Yes.

You can learn EFT online, including at practitioner level.

But there is an important difference between watching EFT online and being trained in EFT online.

Watching random videos can introduce you to tapping, but you may encounter many different approaches without having a framework for knowing which are effective.

Prerecorded learning can provide valuable information and demonstrations, particularly as a resource for reviewing and consolidating material.

Live practitioner training adds something different: teaching, interaction, questions, practical experience, feedback and guidance.

My approach is therefore:

  • Attend the training live.
  • Watch demonstrations and participate in the teaching.
  • Learn how to target EFT effectively.
  • Practise privately with other students.
  • Receive support from my training assistants during practice.
  • Ask questions while you are learning.
  • Return afterwards to the recorded teaching and demonstrations.
  • Use additional demonstrations and learning resources to consolidate your skills.
  • Follow the step-by-step accreditation pathway if professional accreditation is your goal.

The recordings support the learning.

The private platform supports the learning.

The additional demonstrations support the learning.

But the foundation is the live training experience.

Because learning where to tap is relatively straightforward.

Learning what to target, how to work with what emerges and how to respond skilfully to another human being is the deeper part of EFT training.

And that can most certainly be learned online.
